Review: Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis (No Spoilers)

Title: Not a Drop to Dink
Author: Mindy McGinnis
Series: Not a Drop to Drink (#1)
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Rating: 5/5 Kitkats

Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.

Wow.
Just wow.
This dystopian was a breath of fresh air.
Not a lot of action was involved, but I liked that.

This was more about the characters and their survival.
A bit like with The Walking Dead.

I love character development. You can really see the change in all characters.
Lynn is definitely a strong one.

Water is scarce.
She was brought up by her mother on how to survive to look after the pond they have. Lynn learns how to care for others, and at her age, I admire her. She was taught how to use a gun at a very small age.

I also really liked the character Eli. He was cute, admirable, and don't forget very brave.

Stebbs is really cool. He's like a father figure to Lynn.

Lucy is definitely a character to watch.

The story starts of fantastic. The world building is immense and I was totally engrossed.
It made me imagine myself there and what survival would be like.
It definitely makes you feel grateful to be in the life styles that we have now.

The writing was also brilliant. I just couldn't put this book down.
And that ending? So emotional.

I cannot wait to continue with the next book. I loved it, and that is why I gave it five out of five Kitkats.
