Title: All that we see or seem
Author: Tempest C Avery
Publisher: Self-published
Rating: 3/5 stars
Synopsis:
Lily
Bryg is a seventeen year old witch. She doesn't always know what that
means, or how to control it, but she does know that to most, it paints a
pretty little target over her forehead. If that's not bad enough, Ronan
an evil king who believes she's his soul mate has been stalking her in
her dreams. Should she fight Ronan and risk everything, or give up her
freedom to possibly save her friends?
And what about Larkin, the
attractive shape shifter who sparks a strong sense of deja vu within
her? He claims they knew each other in her past life, but how could she
trust something she can't remember? Dodging witches, demons, faeries,
dragons, and much, much more, the Four are just beginning to realize
that having power comes with a lot of responsibility. And sacrifice. But
one question stands out among the rest, haunting Lily through out the
nights and days. Should she fight Ronan and risk everything, or should
she give up her freedom to the gorgeous, yet wicked, king in order to
possibly save her friends?

My thoughts:
Before reading, the synopsis did draw me in. However, I was let down, which is really disappointing.
For some reason, the writing style didn't grab me and keep my attention in ways that I wanted. I kept getting lost and confused, and I guess that the writing was the reason. It did take me a while to read, unfortunately.
I started out listing spelling and grammar mistakes so that I could tell the author on a side, "Just to let you know, on location so-and-so, there was a spelling/grammar mistake" and not let it cloud my judgement. However, there were so many mistakes, I gave up listing them. It did let me down, as I was trying to enjoy the story, and got distracted by it.
On a plus side, I did like the characters and their relationships. I thought the main character Lily was strong and independent and admired her courage.
The story had a great deal of action at the beginning, and the ending leads me to wanting to read the next book. You tease, ending, you tease!
I like the cover to the novel. It has a simple mirror effect. Not sure if that means there are two sides to one girl, but it seems interesting enough. The structure to the book is nice as the chapters aren't too long.
Overall, I gave this book three out of five stars because it didn't grab me enough, it lacked in certain places, and there were some spelling and grammar mistakes which did annoy me.
If you like mythical/supernatural creatures and beings like witches, werewolves, faeries, dragons and evil princes, then give it a try.
Happy reading =)
